Nourish & Flourish

Our Story

What Drives Us

Here at Nourish & Flourish, we strive promote healthy food choices and create a community where all people have access to healthy food. We strongly value high quality food, and believe that a healthy diet should be incorporated in everyone's life. Because of our commitment to healthy food, we aim to fight food inequality in a way that emphasizes the quality of food just as much as the quantity of it.

What We Do

Here at Nourish & Flourish, we participate in a variety of activities that support our mission to improve access to nutritious food and promote long-term healthy eating habits within our communities. Our work centers around two primary areas: food access and nutrition education.

Food delivery & access:

In order to improve access to healthy food, Nourish & Flourish organizes and participates in multiple food preparation and distribution efforts throughout the year. These initiatives are designed to provide nutritious food to individuals and families who need it most.

Examples include:

  • Sandwich making/delivery– Members come together to prepare fresh sandwiches which are then delivered to nearby schools, community centers, food banks, etc.

  • Farmers Market food redistribution: Through organizations like Food Forward, we are able to rally groups of organization members to collect left over food from farmers markets, and deliver them to senior homes and churches– ensuring that fresh food reaches those who may otherwise lack access.

Education:

In addition to addressing immediate food needs, Nourish & Flourish is committed to tackling the root causes of poor nutrition, particularly the lack of education surrounding healthy eating and its long-term consequences. We host educational events aimed to empower individuals, especially the youth, with the knowledge needed to make healthy choices.

Examples Include:

  • Educational presentations– A small group of club members go to different schools and present interactive lessons about the importance of eating healthy. Presentations are designed to keep viewers engaged by incorporating trivia, interesting animated videos, polls, and much more.

  • Guest Speakers and Personal Testimonies: One way we emphasize the importance of eating healthy, is by highlighting the real consequences or eating poorly. One way we do this is by having individuals living with Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure to share their personal experiences, and how they have been affected by their dietary choices. This provides meaningful insight into the health consequences of poor nutrition, and the sad reality of failing to do so.

What sets us apart

One big thing that sets us apart is our emphasis on fighting food insecurity with purely healthy food. Furthermore, we take care of all sourcing and delivery of food, ensuring a convenient process for all those benefiting.

Education

Another aspect of Nourish & Flourish is educating the public on how to lead a nutritious life. Many people today know that eating whole foods is good for health, but very few understand how important it really is. Because of this, here at Nourish & Flourish, we set out to educate the public on the real-world consequences of eating low quality food, the importance of incorporating whole foods in a diet, and providing the resources to do so for those who cannot.
